Dr. Carlos Montoya Jr.

Biography

Carlos Montoya Jr., M.D. is a board certified physician of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Montoya has also undergone advanced training in the implantation of intraocular lenses, LASIK, and cosmetic eyelid surgery. Dr. Montoya Jr., M.D. has had over 10 years experience in the field of ophthalmology. He has performed over 10,000 surgeries which include Cataract, Glaucoma, LASIK and Blepharoplasties. He has been trained with the latest technology in advanced cataract surgery.

Dr. Montoya Jr. uses the latest in presbyopic correcting intraocular implants; including ReSTOR and Crystalens which provide the best and most current results in cataract surgery. Patients are pleasantly surprised when their youthful vision has been restored to them.

Dr. Carlos Montoya Jr. attended the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical School. During his years at UCI he published several articles in the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, and in the American Journal of Ophthalmology. After graduating medical school he was accepted to UCLA/West Los Angeles VA Medical Center for his internship year. Following his internship he completed his training in ophthalmology at Nassau County Medical Center/Stony Brook University Hospital in the state of New York. Since then he has fulfilled his life-long dream of joining his father at St. Lucia Eye Center. Dr. Montoya remembers following his father down the halls of medical institutions in El Salvador and wishing for the day that he would become a doctor to practice with his father. Today, Dr. Montoya Jr. is fulfilling that life-long dream.

In addition to providing his time to his patients at St. Lucia Eye Center, Dr. Montoya Jr. also gives back to the profession that has given him so much joy and fulfillment. He enjoys his time as a volunteer attending physician at USC Doheny Eye Institute where he teaches residents the art of cataract surgery. He regularly attends seminars and conferences to keep up with the latest developments in the field of ophthalmology. Drs. Montoya enjoy traveling together to do “pro-bono” work in Central America. Dr. Montoya Jr. thoroughly enjoys the feeling of restoring vision to those who would not otherwise be able to afford this new technology.

Dr. Montoya Jr. is highly committed to applying his expertise and his compassion to patient care. He believes in living life with love, health, happiness, and passion towards his professional and personal life.
